FAQ's - Jane Ball Photography

What is your style of photography ?

I prefer to work in a reportage style, capturing candid often unseen moments but in order to obtain a certain "structure" in your shoot I find sometimes a touch of "loose guidance" often helps, specially as most people are a little self conscious in front of the camera at first. A few "comic" moments often help break the ice ( even though most of the time we will have met prior to your shoot  to discuss what kind of images you'd like ) and before long you'll hardly notice I'm there !

I personally like photographs to reflect the individuality of your day and to portray you being you. I often add a quirky angle as well as small details. I do not however take photographs from high vantage points unless it's from a place of safety so you will not find me standing on walls or climbing trees.

I always encourage an element of fun and relaxation so I ask you to choose your venue - be it your favourite place, where you met, anywhere really .... country idyll or urban grunge the choice is yours. If you haven't got a special place then I'm always willing to suggest one of mine. I prefer to shoot using natural light so outdoors is ideal but I'm open to any ideas you may have.

Are you prepared to travel ?

Definitely !

Travel is my middle name !  Anywhere you can be so can I. Travel to locations within my home county of Lancashire is free of charge. For locations outside of Lancashire travel is calculated at 50p/mile. As long as travel/accommodation expenses are covered I'm all yours. If I need accommodation that is something I will discuss with you before you book your shoot.

Do you do black & white photography ?

Absolutely !

I love  black and white photographs

Ted Grant once said " When you photograph people in colour you photograph their clothes, when you photograph people in black & white you photograph their souls".

I always shoot in colour but I can convert and edit any image in black and white if that is what you prefer. You may want all your photographs in black and white,  in colour or a mixture of both. Either way is fine by me.

How do you edit images ?

Each image is edited in a way that reflects/enhances the moment. I keep your images as true as possible while applying my own particular style. Post processing is done using professional software to achieve the highest quality possible.

What about copyright ?

Jane Ball Photography retains copyright of all your images under International Copyright law You are free to use the print quality files for any personal use including personal printing but I don't allow commercial use ( e.g. website design or advertising material ) without my prior consent in writing.
