Danielle & Wayne's Intimate Wedding

July 2019

"Ours is just a small wedding"

Danielle got in touch with me asking if I would be interested in shooting their small and intimate wedding. "There's only eleven of us and every other photographer we've spoken to says they don't do anything less than than a full day" said Danielle. I told her that I'd be delighted to photograph their wedding so we arranged to meet.

A few days later I met up with both her and Wayne for a chat about their plans over a coffee at the local marina. They were a lovely quiet couple who just wanted coverage of their register office ceremony plus some family and couple portraits afterwards at Towneley Park.

It became apparent as we chatted that I might just have my work cut out as they both said their families hated having their photographs taken.

We  parted with Danielle and Wayne saying they'd have another  look at my website and get back to me.

So, challenge accepted and contract signed we spoke a lot over the following months with us exchanging ideas via a Pinterest board and met up at Towneley Hall and park to recce locations for their photographs.

The wedding date had been set for July and I knew that the park would be a riot of colour with all the rhododendrons in full bloom so I had a definite plan of where would be the best places to grab those all important couples portraits.

A day of sunshine and showers.

I arrived at the register office in a downpour to find that Danielle's brothers were already there. Soon other members of the family arrived along with the groom and as there was a break in the showers I grabbed a few shots of the waiting guests.

Wayne was looking a tad nervous as he waited inside for his bride to arrive.

Just as the rain started again Danielle arrived with her grandad who had made the trip, along with Danielle's nanny from France. I grabbed a shot of them together before heading off inside for the ceremony.

The Ceremony

Danielle was walked down the aisle by her grandad. She looked fabulous in her tea length dress and rainbow coloured Irregular Choice shoes, the colours almost matched the colours in her hair.

Once they had been pronounced husband and wife it was time to sign the register and get some shots of the family together ... I even managed to persuade them to do the old "jazz hands" bit !

Little did Danielle know but some of her work colleagues had gathered together outside for the confetti shower, the smiles were big beaming ones as she realised what was happening and I just kept firing the shutter to capture it all. Thankfully the rain stayed away for us at this point.

Family Portraits at Towneley Park

Towneley Park and Hall is a stunning backdrop for wedding photographs but you have to be lucky to avoid the park rangers as photographs in front of the hall are frowned upon ( unless you pay for the privilege of taking them ) but as it was a weekday and raining we were very lucky not to come across them at all !

We had already decided on our previous visit where the best places where for the group and couple portraits so we headed off as soon as everyone arrived. Danielle had brought an umbrella with her in case of showers so we put that to good use in the shots of her & Wayne in the woodland.

The family group shots took on an amusing slant as Danielle's grandad tried dodging his inclusion by standing under his huge red and black brolly only to be ordered to conform by Nanny and Wayne's dad insisted on hiding behind Wayne's mum unitl I spotted what he was up to and brought him back in line. There was much laughter at this point but the resulting photographs were loved by the couple and I think I scored a few Brownie points by managing to get everyone on one photograph according to Wayne's lovely review on them receiving their gallery.

Danielle and Wayne's Couple's shots

Our Pinterest board ideas came into play too as Danielle & Wayne had asked for some of the romantic shots to be taken through the foliage and it was in and around the rhodendrons that I chose to do these. Again the colours of the flowers were in keeping with Danielle's own colour theme.

Luckily the rain showers seemed to have by passed us as we headed off for the romantic portraits and still no sign of the park rangers we too k a chance on grabbing a few shots nearer to the hall.

Danielle had told me at our first meeting that she would at some point be changing from her wedding shoes to her Doc Martens and when I saw them I was blown away ! They were amazing ! Blue sparkly Docs .... just perfect for this lovely, quirky non conventional bride, I just had to get a shot of them with her bouquet and I think that photograph is the one that clinches this wedding for me. I knew it was a "must have" shot for Danielle and I'm so happy I got it for her.

Wayne's kind words

"From the first meeting with Jane we knew we chose the best person to take the photos on our special day. Jane made sure that we ware involved in what photos were being taken, set up Pinterest boards for ideas and made us feel at ease. On the day itself, Jane made sure everyone was involved, which was a hard job since no one liked their picture taken. made sure that natural photos were taken as well all the ones we requested. We couldn't of asked for a better photographer. despite the weather the photos are stunning, Jane has done an amazing job with them. Would not think twice about recommending Jane to anyone."

If you're planning a colourful quirky wedding large or small and you think I'm the photographer for you please get in touch ..... I'd love to hear your plans.
